Bestselling author Clare Mackintosh supports Oxford-based hospital charity

Sunday Times bestselling author Clare Mackintosh has become patron of the John Radcliffe’s Silver Star Society, supporting families with difficult pregnancies. The Silver Star Unit is internationally recognised and unique to the John Radcliffe hospital, providing expectant mothers with specialist support for high-risk pregnancies. The Silver Star

Society fundraises in support of the unit, providing midwife training bursaries, breast-milk fridges, ultrasound devices, partner beds and home comforts for patients and their new- born babies.

Clare says: “I benefited from exceptional care during two high-risk pregnancies, and will always be grateful for it. The family rooms provided by the Silver Star Society meant that, following a traumatic and emotional labour, my husband could stay with me and my twins for several days. It is a great honour to be invited to be a patron of the Silver Star Society and I hope that I can help continue the astonishing work carried out by so many dedicated volunteers.”

Maggie Findlay, administrator of the Silver Star Society, says: “We are delighted to welcome Clare on board and look forward to her input not only as a Silver Star Mum but as a media expert and bestselling author”
