SILVER STAR SOCIETY LONDON 2012 MARATHON TEAM

Steve Greening

My main reason for supporting Silver Star is due to the role it has played in helping my
cousin Shelly & her husband Scot Jardine become Silver Star parents. Like a lot of other close friends & relatives I got to see the difference Silver Star made.
I live on the Wirral, Merseyside & following complications with my second son, it made me realize how lucky we were to have some superb staff, but this isn’t always the case. This personal experience reminded me of Shell & Silver Star again, & the amazing work these people do & the difference they make to people’s lives.
It’s for both these reasons that Silver Star is so important to me & I want to help support the unit in any way possible.

I am very excited to be running the London Marathon for the Silver Star unit. Having two
Silver Star babies, with the youngest born in January 2012 I can honestly say that what is in a days work for the team truly changes the lives of families such as mine and I cannot thank them enough. The support, and the specialist care they provide has guided us through some difficult moments and we have always been able to rely on the team to put our family’s needsfirst. To think that the unit has been threatened with closure is very sad and I am proud to be contributing towards their future and to the hopes of future mothers and families. Thenumerous cold and dark training runs are just a small token of my appreciation and even though my contribution will be relatively small, I hope I can play a part in securing the future of the Silver Star unit.

I would like to run the London Marathon for SilverStar because i have a number of friends who have had still born babies, or had to deliver babies very late in pregnancy due to complications leading to their death. It is not until you start talking about it that you realise how many other people have had the same experience. Working with a SilverStar mum, i have heard all about the amazing facilities and service that you gave her and would be delighted to raise money for such a great cause. I am currently doing my Pregnancy Massage Diploma (I am a part time massage therapist) and love working with Mums and their bumps!
i recently ran my first half marathon so i am halfway there on the training front!

I am 38 years of age with two children of 18 and 16 yrs and will be running the London Marathon for the 5th time in April.
I have always run for Cancer charities in the past but it is great for me to run for a
local charity. I am based at the Oxford Golf Club working as a PGA Golf Professional and our Captain for next year has chosen the Silver Star Trust as one of his Charities for the year. With thisin mind it was great when I got the opportunity to run with Silver Star as it will enable us to support each other in fundraising activities.

SHELLEY JARDINE

i am running the 2012 London Marathon for the Silver Star Society as a way of saying thank you to them all for the support they gave us in our journey to become a family. This amazing team are like no other and I know without them we would not have Isaac and Elias for which I will be eternally grateful.
Thank you does not seem enough when you get to take your baby home and I felt I needed to do something tangible to help support the unit that means so much to us. Apart from pregnancy this will be the biggest physical challenge of my life but I know that when it gets tough, which I am sure it will, I remember why I am doing it and however I cross the line I will do it.

Sometimes it can be difficult for mothers returning home from having their Silver Star baby. Mothers, lucky enough to have a trouble free pregnancy and birth, who may have delivered at their local hospital, or even at home, have no idea at all what a typical Silver Star mother may have been through in order to get her baby home.
