London Marathon 2009

Martin Kerr says: ‘Unfortunately I started the run with injuries, but managed to finish, though it took me a long time.It was a painful from 15 onwards but hey marathons are! A fantastic day! Lots of amazing support, and once you emerge out of Canary Wharf and turn towards the the finish, it’s a great lift - you can then look forward to the single digit miles and count them down, then you know you’re going to finish (even if you have to walk some of it).
Little effort compared to the continual dedication shown by Silver Star staff.
You helped our son Matthew and his mum to a safe conclusion! He’s now nearly fifteen and a budding blues/rock guitarist. Keep up the good work and once again thank you for all you do.’

Shaun Bradbury says: ‘It was a great day although the heat took its toll and I came in at 3 hours 51 minutes. The crowd were amazing for the whole 26.2 miles (I had holy water sprayed over me outside the local Church en route!) and I wouldn’t have completed the course without their support. The last couple of miles were sheer hell only my family’s encouragement and the great cause I was running for helped me through the final stages.’

Rob Hills says:’ When things got tough I just had to remind myself that I had been sponsored so generously by friends and family to complete the marathon. I was running for a charity that meant something to me and my family and if I finished I could maybe get a few more pounds to say a bigger thank you and then there was the medal ... my personal memento. Thanks to the atmosphere of the day, the fellow runners, the volunteers and the crowd’s encouragement I was able to achieve all three and hopefully help others in the process’.

Breda Kavanagh says:
‘We all had a fantastic day and thanks to Silver Star for giving me the opportunity to fulfil an ambition. The crowds, the cheering, the support, the emotion, the sunshine, all in
the best city in the world - 26.2 miles of exhilaration WOW!’

Kathy Fearn-Webster says:’The day was really well supported and I was totally overwhelmed by the number of people lining the streets who were genuinely encouraging each and every runner. The whole experience has been incredible and following my journey into an unknown world of carb loading, fartleking and tapering I had a great run and can honestly say I enjoyed every single step of it, well its not everyday you find yourself running with the likes of wonder-woman, spiderman and father Christmas to name but a few. I ran for Adam and Lily, my two beautiful children, who mean the world to us, in the hope that our small fundraising efforts help others.’
