Armando's biog

Armando Iannucci has written and produced numerous critically acclaimed television and radio comedy shows, including his award-winning series of shows featuring the now infamous Alan Partridge. He has also fronted his own satirical programmes, including The Friday Night Armistice and his Radio 4 show Armando Iannucci's Charm Offensive.

The Thick Of It, winner of the Best New TV Comedy at the 2005 British Comedy Awards about a beleaguered Minister trying to cope with the pressure imposed by his army of spin doctors, and the spoof clip show Time Trumpet, were both written/directed and co-produced by Armando.

His directorial debut and co-written feature film In The Loop is a comedy set in the world of Whitehall and Washington, starring Peter Capaldi, Tom Hollander and James Gandolfini. It opened to rave reviews in 2009 and has already received numerous awards and nominations including Winner – Best Comedy Film at the British Comedy Awards and Best Screenplay - New York Film Critics. He has also been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

The Silver Star Society are delighted to announce that Armando Iannucci the director, producer and Oscar nominated writer has agreed to become our Patron.

Armando says……

"I'm excited and honoured to be asked to be Patron of the Silver Star Unit. The maternity Unit, housed at Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital, is world-renowned for the dedicated care and attention if gives to mothers with troubled pregnancies. I've seen their work at close hand throughout my wife's three pregnancies', leading to the birth of our three bouncing, energetic children. Like any NHS service, funding is always an issue, so I'll be particularly keen to play a part not only in raising awareness of the fantastic work the Silver Star Unit does in care and ongoing research, but in helping them secure better funding for the future."

The Silver Star Unit continues to give first class care to Mothers and their unborn babies and, contrary to a recent rumour of its closure, it is very much “business as usual” in the Silver Star Unit on level 6 at the Women's Centre, John Radcliffe Hospital.
